This week, we introduce a new feature to the show - the “Remake Roundup.” It seems that every year, Hollywood rehashes, remakes or reimagines films from years gone by. In this segment of the show, we will compare an original film with its modern counterpart. In our first installment, we take a look at King Kong, one of the American Film Institute’s Top 100 American Films of all time.
In 1933, director Merian C. Cooper stunned Depression-era audiences with his King Kong. The size and scope of the visual effects were something no one had really seen before. Kong ‘33 is a film that has inspired generations of filmmakers and special effects masters. One such filmmaker is director Peter Jackson. In fact, Jackson possesses thelargest collection of authentic Kong memorabilia in the world. In 2005, he presented the world with his updated version of his favorite film. King Kong hit theaters with a bang. The spectacle and scope of the film was immense…but how does it compare to the original? Does it live up to the reputation of the 1933 version? Does Peter Jackson successfully capture the imagination of audiences as Merian C. Cooper did in 1933? Stephen and Zack have differing opinions. Download Episode #10 now to hear our thoughts!!
