2006 has seen two dramatic film representations of the horrific atrocities of September 11, 2001. While some argue it is too soon for such big screen reminders, the fact remains that Hollywood has always reflected upon major historical events. This week, we take a look at the latest film, Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center. Starring Nicolas Cage, Maria Bello, Michael Pena and Maggie Gyllenhaal star in the true story of Port Authority police officers John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno, who were trapped in the rubble of the Twin Towers. Does Stone resist his usual impulses of conspiriacy, political undertones and over-the-top characterizations, or does he treat the subject matter with respect and dignity? How does World Trade Center compare to this year’s United 93? Download now to hear our thoughts!
